I looked back, far back in time. I looked at the men who came to the land I know, sleep and eat everyday. If they are oh-so-mighty as every population tells, why didn't Polo warn Tupã the Portuguese people were coming? Is Jehovah more powerful than the native's?
But if he's the one true god, why he allowed Thor and his companions to thrive over the old England? As far as I'm concerned, Odin did more for his people that any other God ever did. Or was it Jupiter -shall we call him Zeus, for popular matters? After all, the old Roman Empire conquered all hey thought it was the whole world, before knowledge came, before ships, before the life we know today.
What about Ra? Shiva? Allah? Mul Mantar? Ahura Mazda? Viracocha? Hunab Ku? Huitzilopochtli? An? El? Dagda? Shangdi? Izanami?Wakan Tanka? Krishna? Pan? Who are all these people, all these deities? Aren't they all the same, with only different names, different interpretations under different life philosophies? Is this it then? Do we have the same gods, all over the world in all it's ages? Or are they different?
Or do they attend prayers under specific territories? They are gods in their birthplace, the place they always knew, the place we humans created, worshipped and lived under their good will, wrath or mercy. They smile at you because you are a dear son to them. All of you, to all of them. You live under their roof, and they protect you or punish you if that's needed in their perception.
But if you run away home, if you pack you things and go far from their sight, they cannot longer save you. They don't have voice, they don't have power. They have many other children to look after, it's not that they don't worry about you, maybe, it's just you entered you neighbour's house. You opened the door and entered for yourself. You might think the house is empty, you haven't seen anyone else, you may be daydreaming, wandering around, you didn't notice you left your parents, but I'm sure they can't see you. Maybe they had a glimpse of you when you passed in front of the window, but they cannot brush your hair, nor kiss your forehead. They can't help. Have you noticed it?
So what do you do? Do you come back home? But how, now that you know this house is not empty, now that you know the world isn't only what you thought it was? Can you simply come back? Now that you know your neighbour serves chocolate biscuits after dinner, while in your house you always have lemon tart? Do you like it better? Why? Do you think this fathers and mothers from this strange house with strange people can adopt you? But how could they, they have so many children of their own to take care of, children who pray day and night for happiness or misfortune?
No child, it's not that they don't want you here, but wear their shoes, if you had a thousand sons, complicated, complex, rebelling and demanding sons and daughters, would you notice the foreign child and take him as your own? Hard to say. But they are not your parents, they cannot protect you, you are here alone, as most as you like being here, it is dangerous. What would you do, dear child?
What if you were born an orphan? You grew up in someone else's house, but do you belong? For some time, you think you do, maybe they will accept you as one of their own. But what if you doubt them? What if your parents do something you don't agree with? "Why do they show affection that way? Why do they say that is right? Why did they punish that other kid?" you start to think. And then they remember you are not really their child and you start thinking you don't want to be their child anyway. But who are your parents? How will you know? Are they close, are they far? Are they dead, long ago? How can you find them? If you do find them, will they recognise you, accept you? Will you renounce to all of them, and have peace living on your risk?
Many questions. Many doubts. Many kids, many parents.
As for me, I wonder. A lot. I'm not even close to knowing any answer.
But doesn't it gets to you?
Do Gods have limited range of power?
Is that why the world is how it is nowadays? Because we are worshipping the wrong gods, we are far away from our truly parents, or they died ages ago? Would it change if we knew who's house is this we're in right now?
Did the old civilizations made a mistake in colonizing and killing other population's religion, because now the gods who protect our house are dead, since there's no one to believe them, and the house has been destroyed and reconstructed?
What if we die here, in this nowhere land, would our soul finally meet our fathers and mothers, or is going to this rulers version of after-death? Or even worse, what if we never get to know who created us, not even in death, and we are forced to just go to a limb, a weird state where we neither exist now are vanquished from existence?
I don't think we have anywhere to go, if this is true, do we?
